Bursa was the first capital of Ottoman Empire and has some of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture including mosques, medreses, imarets and public buildings such as hans, hamams and public fountains. We will start our Bursa tour visiting Grand Mosque and the Green Mausoleum decorated with the famous Iznik tiles. We will have our lunch in an Iskender Kebap (Turkish specialty) restaurant which you will certainly appreciate. In the afternoon we will visit the Covered Bazaar and the old Silk Market, then travel Uludag Mountain by cable car to enjoy the beauty of Bursa. Late evening, we will return to Istanbul and transfer you back to your hotels.
The Great Mosque: Built in the 14th century, this is the first example of a monumental Ottoman multi-domed mosque. The mosque consists of no less than 20 domes supported by 12 stout pillars, with five naves and four bays. The horizontal spaces and dimly–lit interior are designed to make you feel peaceful and contemplative. The multiple domes and pillars subdivide the spaces which instill a sense of privacy, even intimacy, contrasting with later designs. Also worthy of note is the wooden minbar (pulpit), a masterpiece of relief carving.
Green Mausoleum: The name comes from the thousands of green-blue tiles which decorate the interior of the building. It was constructed for Mehmet I by his son Murad II and is built entirely of hewn stone and marble. The T-shaped floor plan pioneered what was to become a Turkish architectural tradition.
Bedesten Covered Bazaar: Built by Yıldırım Bayezit in the 14th century, is a perfect place to find good quality baby clothes and casual sportswear. You will also notice wholesale outlets with bales of unspun cotton of varying composition and quality.
Silk Market (Koza Han): Bursa was famous for being the final destination of the famous Silk Road. The market was established in 1491, and contains a huge variety of shops which offer an abundance of precious silks.
Here you can find everything from headscarves to wonderful silk ties which are available at very reasonable prices.
Uludağ Mountain by Cable Car: The last stop on today’s Travel in Turkey Green Bursa tour. The full extent of the gondola lift can carry you a distance of 5.5 miles (8.8 km), to a height of 6,140 feet (1,870 metres), where there are popular ski resorts. We will travel only to the first stage of the route, high enough to enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of city of Bursa.
