Tour Details
Pigeon Valley: The name comes from the thousands of pigeon houses carved into the soft surface of fairy chimneys in ancient times and it is one of the most beautiful landscapes in the region. Pigeons were used as a source of food and fertilizer and the valley gives us clues into the lifestyles of the early inhabitants of the region.
Göreme Panorama: An ideal place to take in the view over the great landscape of Göreme Village and the fairy chimneys. You will have free time to explore and take photos. You can see the color varieties of the fairy chimneys ranging from white to yellow, pink, grey and black.
Derinkuyu Underground City: Derinkuyu is the largest excavated underground city in Turkey. It has all the usual features of other underground cities such as rooms, refectories, chapels, stables, cellars, wine and oil presses. What is unique to Derinkuyu is the large room on the second floor with the barrel-vaulted ceiling which was used as a religious school in its time. The underground city consists of seven floors and is approximately 85m deep. It could accommodate up to 28,000 people when required. During your visit you will have chance to see the ventilation and defence systems of the city which will undoubtedly surprise and impress you.
Ihlara valley: When you step into the valley you will see a lush paradise and diverse natural habitat. Ihlara Valley is the largest, deepest and longest canyon in Cappadocia. You will follow the Melendiz River while you are trekking along the canyon. Early Christians were the residents of the canyon for almost 500 years between the 5th and 10th centuries and during the visit we are going to stop by almost ten different churches and monasteries that they built here.
Belisirma: Is one of the oldest vilages in all Cappadocia, and a charming place to stop for a well-earned tasty lunch.
Here you will also have chance to see the oldest church of the area, which was dedicated to John the Baptist.
Selime Rock Monastery: Located at the end of the canyon, Selime Monastery is the largest monastery used by Christians in the area. It is one of the most impressive sites of Cappadocia’s cultural heritage. The cathedral at the top of the monastery is carved into the rocks and dates back to 7th and 8th centuries. Interestingly, Selime Monastery is a location where some scenes of “Star Wars” were shot.
