Visiting
Karahayit Red Springs: While Pamukkale's terraces are made of travertine, a sedimentary rock deposited by mineral water rich in calcium carbonate, the terraces at the red springs have been shaped by spring water rich in iron and sulfur which leave reddish metallic deposits at the point of exit. In both cases the deposits left by the mineral-rich natural springs are the result of thousands of years of crystallization. The area has been attracting visitors to its thermal springs since the time of classical antiquity.
Hierapolis Ancient City: The city of Hierapolis was founded in 190 B.C. by Eumenes II as part of the great Empire of Pergamum and was probably named after Hiera, the wife of the legendary founder of Pergamum. Previously Phrygian, Greek and Byzantine, the city’s development reached its peak under Romans. Around the city, there are many ancient ruins such as a Necropolis, Baths, a Basilica, the monumental entrance to the city Frontinius Gate, Frontinius Street, Latrina, Northern Byzantine Gate, the Fountain of the Tritons and the Temple of Apollo. Together, Pamukkale and Hierapolis are now under the protection of their status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are ‘must see’ for a tourist excursion.
Travertines: The unusual geological feature of the travertines, shaped by an underground water source that comes to the surface through springs which form streams of thermal water that flow over and down cliffs, shaping small thermal pools. This mineral water is saturated with dissolved calcium bicarbonate and as it cools in the pools, the calcium residue solidifies. It becomes a hard white chalk like substance known as travertine. You are very welcome to walk in and submerge your bare feet in the thermal waters.
Cleopatra's Thermal Pool: You will also have chance to have enough free time to swim in the Antique Thermal Pool of Cleopatra, so do not forget to bring your swimsuits with you and enjoy the healing waters.
End of our Travel in Turkey Pamukkale tour, transfer to the airport for your evening flight back to Istanbul, and then transfer to your hotel.
