Visiting;
The Ancient City of Ephesus; A World Heritage site, Ephesus is one of the largest Roman archaeological sites in the eastern Mediterranean. At the height of its era of prosperity, it was second in importance and size only to Rome. It was visited by Anthony and Cleopatra.
Temple of Hadrian: Built before 138 A.D. by P.Quintilus and dedicated to Emperor Hadrian, it is the most beautiful and best-preserved structures and one of the most famous monuments of the ancient city of Ephesus. It lies on the south side of Curates Street, one of Ephesus' main arteries connecting the Gate of Hercules with the Library of Celsus
Temple of Domitian: Built during the reign of Domitian, it is the first structure in Ephesus known to be dedicated to an emperor. Built on the slope of the hill south of Ephesus and extending into the center of the city, this prominent temple could be seen from nearly everywhere in Ephesus, including the land and harbour entrances. The temple was built on a two-storied wide terrace which is 50x100 meters in dimension, and the upper part of the terrace was reached by stairs which are still visible today.
Hercules Gate: Located at the end of Curetes street, which can be considered the link between two main areas of Ephesus - the political and the commercial one. The gate signals that the street was a pedestrian area. Two monumental pillars of the structure hold magnificent carved reliefs of Hercules, hence its name.
Library of Celsus: Known as the third richest library in ancient times after Alexandra and Pergamum, it was built as a monumental tomb for Gaius Julius Celsus Polemaeanus in 117 A.D. Celsus had been a member of the Roman senate, and later the proconsul of Ephesus. There was a statue of Athena, the goddess of wisdom, thus representing that the place used as a library. There are also four statues representing wisdom (Sophia), knowledge (Episteme), intelligence (Ennoia) and valor (Arete), these being the virtues of Celcus.
Great Theatre: The most magnificent structure in the ancient city of Ephesus, was capable of holding 24,000 spectators, being the largest theatre in Anatolia. The theatre was used not only for concerts and plays, but also for religious, political and philosophical discussions and also for gladiator and animal fights.
House of Virgin Mary: Located 9km from Ephesus, the place known as where Mary spent her last days. The house is a typical example of Roman architecture. It is two-storied and consists of an anteroom, a bedroom, a prayer room, and a room with a fireplace and a kitchen.
Temple of Artemis: One of the seven wonders of ancient world, it was a famous holy place of pilgrimage for centuries. It was completed in 550 BC.
At the end of our Travel in Turkey Ephesus tour, you will be transferred to the airport for the evening flight back to Istanbul, then back to your hotel.
